| Today, the airports around the world need to address the issues of safety and efficiency due to increase in traffic movement and more complex aerodrome layout. Hence, there is a growing need for a more sophisticated software system. The advanced airfield lighting control and monitoring system (A-ALCMS) addresses this specific need. It seamlessly integrates various airport subsystems with the underlying airfield lighting hardware to provide airport operational staff with effective, safe, easy-to-use, unified functions for airfield lighting control and monitoring as well as for airfield surveillance/routing/guidance and control for moving vehicles. Thus, A-ALCMS holds an essential position in the entire complex airport system.
As taxiway, runway, and lighting equipment subsystems are integrated into the same reconfigurable graphical airfield map layout display along with information of target vehicles, the advanced ALCMS provides real-time and unified view for controllers and maintenance personnel to monitor and control lighting conditions and traffic situation in the airfield. Additionally, it also presents visual and audible feedback generated when violation of airfield operations are detected, e.g. runway incursion.

The A-ALCMS allows airport to invest on core operational needs for standard airfield lighting and control system and upgrade to advanced airfield lighting and control system in a phased manner so as to address the progressively increasing needs in handling heavier traffic, more complex airfield layout and/or visibility requirement. The A-ALCMS addresses the following operational requirements:
Core operations:
- Remote monitor and/or control of taxiway lights, runway lights and equipment in lighting substations
- Runway categories - CAT I, II, IIIA & IIIB
- Runway landing direction switch-over
Enhanced taxiway operations:
- Taxiway center light routing and guidance
- Taxiway intersection automatic stop bar interlocking
- Taxiway closure
Enhanced runway operations:
- Runway incursion detection
- Runway occupied warning
- Runway stop bar interlocking with integrated lead-on light control
- Runway closure
- Single lamp control and monitoring
Other functions:
- Target detection, identification and tracking
- Broadcast airport instruction procedure
- Interface with other airport subsystems
With A-ALCMS, the following can be achieved:
- Airplane reaches the stand/gate safely and on time
- Airplane reaches the take-off runway safely and on time
- Higher customer satisfaction for smooth travel experience
- Lower operational cost & higher return of investment, e.g. utility bill, service parts etc
- Lower workload and improved efficiency of air traffic controllers
- Shorter maintenance time and lower workload for maintenance personnel
Benefits:
- Improved operational efficiency
- Readily available real-time information
- Faster and more informed decision making
- Better communication
- Shorter gate-to-gate and maintenance time
- Improved commuter experience and trust
Technology:
- Real-time System
- Distributed Object Technology
- Wireless Communications
- High Availability and Redundancy
- Routing/Guidance Engine
- Relational Database
